It was a chilly and misty last weekend before Christmas when over 60 young people and their leaders braved all the winter elements, hitched up their huskies and reindeer to their sleighs and ventured far far to the north to the place known as the "Frontier Centre". And what a weekend they had. We were off to great start when we discovered that we had virtually 3 star accommodation with en-suite rooms - surely a first for a RACY youth residential? After the rules and regs (yawn) we got down to some ice-breakers to get into teams and the first serious game that involved each team projecting a member as far over a line as possible for them to make a mark without touching the ground in any other way. Despite the "Bible Characters" looking for additional Divine assistance and the "Superheroes" pooling their special powers, it was the "Cartoon Characters" who claimed the victory.

Then everyone was in a great mood and ready to worship, lead by the awesome band of Dan, Ads, John, Ali, Liam and Lucy. The theme for the weekend was "Emmanuel - Christ is with us" and it certainly seemed as if the Holy Spirit was blessing the event so far. Hot Dogs went down really well before preparations for the grand Masked Ball! They looked fabulous with their smart clothes, hair immaculately styled and stunning make-up. And that was just the boys! Everyone had a really good time getting down to DJ Adam's house -mix. Then to round things off some mad party games, before off to bed at about 1:30AM, exhausted but happy. Most impressive sight ever at a residential was checking on the boys rooms at about 2:00 to find four lads still wide awake - but reading their Bibles!!!!! (I would still love to know what they were really up to....)

Sunday morning and not too many bleary eyes for breakfast at 8:30am. Then after a bit of free time during which the lads played footie - of course - we got down to some study and the nativity story according to St Matthew. Some really thoughtful insights were shared. Then some more up beat worship to round things off for the morning.

Sunday Lunch was a triumph, with full on roast turkey dinner with all the trimmings (well done Helen and Carol). Then after a bit of a pack-up we were ready for our special service, that included singing, a rap, the "Bible Bashers" drum group and testimony. With some more worship singing and a prayer circle, we all felt very touched by God. To round things off as the hour of departure approached, we all (attempted) to sing carols by the bonfire (I can see now why RACY carol singers have been banned from most OAP residential care homes now).
